About Pleasant Grove

Mission Statement
We are a non-denominational fellowship of believers endeavoring to serve our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
We desire to become servants of God by serving: each other, our church, and our community. We strive to do this service by seeking His directions, by displaying His love, and by meditating and studying His Word. Our hope is, that by doing these things, we can lead others to the saving Grace of Jesus Christ.

Testimonies

We all live in the world. The world tells us we can be happy and live a fine life if we have certain possessions, go certain places, do certain things; there are dozens, if not hundreds, of actions and things that we are told will make us feel better. The world tells us, "If it feels good, do it."
In my youth and early adulthood, I searched in many places to find what would fill the place in my life that seemed empty. I tried everything from relationships to drinking and drugs. I was always left in a situation worse than when I started. I had an emptiness in my life that prevented me from living contentedly. I thought I was a Christian. I had been raised in a Christian home, been baptized as a young man. However, I had seen what some "Christian" professing folks lived like and did, so I just didn't think that a religion like that was going to be the answer. I finally got to the place where I was able to admit that my best ideas, actions, and schemes hadn't worked. That was when I was able to hear the message of Jesus Christ. That was 40 years ago. Over those 40 years, all sorts of life events have occurred: death of a child and grandchild, job problems, health events, life that happens to us all. Through it all, whenever things got so difficult that I didn't want to continue to try, I would feel the Holy Spirit leading me into a place of Peace that allowed me to be "comfortable", no matter what was going on. It is not an automatic thing, though. I have to actually make sure that I'm continuing each day to recommit to being a Jesus Christ Christian.

I feel as if the Lord has brought me full circle. I began my Christian journey in a small country church in central Iowa and now, 50 years later, I worship the Lord at Pleasant Grove Community Church, another small country church. The Spirit is working through His people at Pleasant Grove and I am excited to be part of this fellowship.

Statement of Faith
1. The Word of God
We believe that the scriptures of the Old and New Testament are given by Inspiration of God, are without error in the original writings, and are the only infallible authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
2. The Trinity
We believe in one God, the Creator and Ruler of the Universe, who eternally exists in a divine and incomprehensible Trinity-The Father, the Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit-each fully God and possessing divine perfection.
3. God the Father
We believe in God the Father, an Infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power, and love.
4. Jesus Christ
We believe in Jesus Christ, truly God and truly man, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. We believe in HIs sinless life, miracles, and teachings. We believe that He died on the cross, a substitutionary atoning sacrifice for our sins and that He arose bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven, where He intercedes now as our High Priest and Advocate.
5. The Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgement, and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower all who believe in Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Christ, and that He is an abiding helper, teacher, and guide.
6. Salvation
We believe that our first parents were created holy and upright, that they fell from this condition, and that in consequence the whole human race is by nature dead in trespasses and sins. We believe that the shed blood of Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe, and that only those who are regenerated (born again) of the Holy Spirit and trust in Christ are delivered from condemnation and granted the gift of eternal life.
7. The Church
We believe in the universal church, a living spiritual body of which Christ is the head. We believe in the local church, consisting of believers in Jesus Christ who associate for worship, work, and fellowship. We believe that only those who through saving faith in Christ are members of His universal church should be eligible for membership in the local church. We believe that God has laid upon the members of the local church the primary task of giving the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world.
8 Christian Conduct
We believe that the Christian is called with a holy calling to walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. We believe that during this earthly pilgrimage the Christian is never delivered from the flesh with its fallen nature and must be in constant subjection to Christ and His commandments by the power of the Holy Spirit.
9. The Ordinances
We believe water baptism and the Lord's Supper are the two ordinances Christ committed to the church; however, they are not to be regarded as means of salvation.
10. The Last Things
We believe in the personal bodily return of the Lord Jesus Christ to earth in power and great glory as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We believe in Christ's ultimate complete triumph and the establishment of "new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells." We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, the final judgement, the eternal joy of the righteousness, and the endless conscious suffering of the wicked.
